Dr Myriam Girgis is a Specialist Obstetrician, Gynaecologist and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon. She has supported women for over a decade and pursues Gynaecological and Obstetric Care, and Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) to an exceptional standard. She consults in Kogarah and Campsie and delivers pregnancy care at St George Private Hospital. She is a Credentialed Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon at the state-of-the-art St George Private, Hurstville Private and Strathfield Private Hospitals. Dr Girgis is also a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, and a VMO at The Canterbury Hospital where she oversees a Gynaecology clinic and offers elective surgery.
Highly qualified and experienced, Dr Girgis offers management of a comprehensive range of gynaecological conditions emphasizing minimally invasive surgical approaches such as laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery. She has a special interest in complex laparoscopic pelvic surgery and is equally proficient in open and vaginal surgery.
Additionally, Dr Girgis is passionate about provision of comprehensive pregnancy care, including pre-conception, pregnancy, and postnatal care. She is committed to being available to attend all births and emergencies. Dr Girgis specialises in high-risk obstetrics, including twin pregnancies, diabetes, thyroid disorders, vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC), women of advanced maternal age and pregnant women with complex pre-existing conditions.
Dr Girgis completed her Obstetrics and Gynaecology Specialist Training in Sydney to become a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG). She was the Urogynaecology and Laparoscopic Fellow at St Vincent’s Hospital, and the Gynaecology Fellow at the Sydney West Advanced Pelvic Surgery (SWAPS) unit. Following this, Dr Girgis completed an intensive two-year postgraduate Fellowship in Complex and Advanced Laparoscopic Gynaecological Surgery with the Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery (AGES) Society. She is credentialled to offer laparoscopic surgery at the top skill level of surgical complexity (AGES Level 6). Through these long years of training, Dr Girgis perfected her surgical and laparoscopic skills and her management of complex gynaecological conditions to offer evidence-based treatment options and patient-tailored care.
Beyond surgical expertise, Dr Girgis’ academic journey is a testament to her devotion. She graduated with First Class Honours from the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, during which she was also the recipient of the Dean’s Roll of Excellence and the Vice-Chancellor Leadership Award. She completed the Master of Surgery in Advanced Gynaecological Surgery at the University of Western Sydney, and the Master of Women’s Health Medicine at the University of NSW, where she earned the Golden Key International Honour Society Award for Excellent Academic Achievement.
Furthermore, Dr. Girgis actively engages in continuous learning, attending conferences, presenting at national and local events, and contributing to peer-reviewed publications, and has been recognized with awards for her contributions. Her passion for teaching and mentoring is reflected in her role as a clinical educator and coordinator of various medical training sessions and workshops, specialist interview training, and RANZCOG college examinations.
Dr. Girgis speaks Arabic as a second language, serving as a valuable bridge for effective communication with Arabic-speaking patients.
This is the only post-graduate qualification that leads to recognition as a specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in Australia and New Zealand. The clinician obtains certification as a Fellow of RANZCOG (FRANZCOG) after completion of a minimum of six years in the structured post-graduate program in specialist training by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists. FRANZCOG certification is internationally recognised and indicates demonstrated specialist expertise in the fields of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopic & Surgery Society (AGES) is the premier gynaecological surgical association with a mission to promote the highest standards of clinical and minimally invasive surgical care for women in the Australasian region.
Dr. Girgis obtained her postgraduate advanced laparoscopic surgical training with AGES. She completed this fellowship following the completion of FRANZCOG in order to strive for excellence in surgery. During this time, Dr Girgis gained extensive experience in Minimally Invasive Gynaecological Surgery and is credentialled to offer laparoscopic surgery at the top skill level of surgical complexity (AGES Level 6), including complex endometriosis surgery, laparoscopic hysterectomy, myomectomy, pelvic floor surgery, operative hysteroscopy, and vaginal and open surgery.
Surgical skills are classified into 6 levels based on surgical complexity from level 1 being least complex to level 6 being of top surgical complexity. Proficiency in Level 5 and 6 surgical complexity is achieved through the completion of the AGES Fellowship Accredited Training Program.
During these years of intensive training, Dr Girgis not only gained skills in difficult laparoscopic surgery but also experience in the proficient management of complex gynaecological conditions.
Dr Girgis works closely with colorectal and urology surgeons to care for women that may have gynaecologic conditions involving their bowel and urinary tract (bladder/bowel/ureters).

Dr. Girgis pursued this Master's program with the intent of enhancing her already impressive AGES Fellowship surgical training. Through rigorous study and dedicated exploration of these areas, this degree equips Dr Girgis with the understanding of the many pathologies and complex clinical presentations within the practice of Women’s Health.
This is a one-year post-graduate diploma in Child Health that is conducted within the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network in collaboration with Western Sydney University to provide teaching in paediatric skills and the health and well-being of children and young people.
This qualification is a five-year full-time study medical degree that qualified Dr Girgis to be a medical practitioner, before she embarked on internship and FRANZCOG training.
